Chapter 1788
The next day, Karina reported to her new hospital.
Since Wilfred had personally recommended her, the hospital director greeted her in person.
"I didn't expect you to come all the way here yourself. Is she that important?" Dr. Lincoln teased lightly.
To his surprise, Wilfred nodded seriously. "Yes, I value her highly. As I mentioned on the phone, she's someone with great potential. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond her control, she couldn't stay at her previous hospital. "Now that she's here, I hope your hospital will treat this promising young talent well."
Wilfred's tone was particularly earnest, catching Dr. Lincoln off guard for a moment before he smiled.
Their conversation was smooth and cordial, and it didn't take long for Karina's position at the new hospital to be finalized. However, Karina herself felt a complicated mix of emotions.
Her mind lingered on one casual term Wilfred had used-"young talent."
"So that's all I am to him?" she thought bitterly.
It made sense. They weren't particularly close. All of his help had been out of a desire to nurture potential, nothing more.
He was simply fulfilling his responsibilities as a hospital director.
And now that he wasn't her director anymore, did that mean their last thread of connection was gone?
The excitement of starting at a new hospital was dampened by the cold reality of that thought, leaving her heart heavy.

Wilfred, for his part, had his own matters to attend to. Once he ensured Karina was settled, he needed to return to Birkham. Karina accompanied him to the car to see him off.
Before he left, she hesitated, holding her words back several times before finally blurting out, "Can I still contact you?"
Wilfred paused, giving her a questioning look.
Karina quickly explained, "I mean... it's a new place, and I'm afraid I won't adapt quickly. If I run into academic problems or need advice, I won't know who to ask, so..." "You can," he said simply.
Seeing her lingering doubt, he repeated himself, pointing at his phone. "Anytime you want. Just call."
Relieved, Karina felt a small smile tug at her lips as she watched his black luxury car drive off into the distance.

Afterward, Karina was guided
through the hospital to familiarize
herself with the environment. Dr.
Lincoln didn't immediately assignet
her heavy responsibilities, instead starting her off with outpatient consultations.
"For now, you'll be a general practitioner The hospital's current research projects can't
accommodate new members ye etnoveldrama
and the surgeries are already covered by other doctors," Dr Lincoln explained, looking a apologetic.

Karina nodded in understanding. "That's perfectly fine. I can wait until there's a suitable assignment."
Dr. Lincoln smiled, visibly relieved. "Good, good. Just as Dr. Wilfred said, you really have a great attitude."
He had been worried that Karina might be difficult or demanding, which would have made things awkward with Wilfred. But she was unexpectedly easygoing, leaving him genuinely impressed and even a little fond of her.
Karina returned his smile, said nothing further, and left his office to head to the consultation room assigned to her.
It was a small, bare office, with little more than a desk and chair. Both the desk and the windowsill were empty.
Karina opened her suitcase and took out a white porcelain mug with a cute illustration of a dog doing the splits. She placed it carefully on the desk before walking to the window to let in some fresh air. "There's a flower shop not far from my apartment," she murmured to herself. "Maybe I'll get a potted plant to liven this place up."
What do you think?
