Chapter 1792
But after seeing the project proposal, Karina's expression shifted, clearly moved. "How is this...?"noveldrama
The director immediately responded, "Karina, you've worked on this project before?"
"Yeah, but I withdrew halfway," Karina replied, quickly composing herself to not appear too surprised.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Carter chuckled lightly.
The director assumed that Karina and Dr. Carter were already familiar with each other, and after giving it some thought, he couldn't resist his excitement and decided to take on the research project.
"Karina, this project was personally recommended by Dr. Carter. You'd better give it your all!"
In response to the director's encouragement, Karina merely smiled faintly.
Once she left the office, even that small, polite smile faded away.
Dr. Carter noticed the change in her expression and couldn't help but chuckle. "Did your expression really change that quickly? You're here, in a new place, unfamiliar with everything. And now, I'm giving you this big project out of nowhere. Don't you think you should thank me?"
"Oh, is that so? Then I thank you," Karina replied sarcastically, her smile barely masking her disdain.
Dr. Carter grinned. "No wonder you're just like Wilfred-taught by him, and you're just as stubborn as he is."
Karina took a deep breath. "I don't know what your intentions are, but I'm no longer involved in this project. And as for Dr. Wilfred, he's been kind to me. Please don't speak ill of him." Dr. Carter raised an eyebrow.
He was dressed casually, his well-fitted gray coat accentuating his figure. If it weren't for his unpleasant personality and his constant smirk, he would probably be quite charming. Despite this, Karina noticed a few nurses eyeing him from a distance.
But she, unlike the others, gave off a clear sense of rejection toward his charm. If there's nothing else, I be leaving. Dr. Carter, you can see
yourself out."
With that, she quickly left the room.
Back in her office, Karina opened the proposal-the very one she had studied and understood deeply before. Her expression became complicated.
After so many setbacks, she never imagined that this project would somehow end up back in her hands.
There was something oddly fateful about it.
She steadied herself, deciding not to dwell on it, and picked up the proposal to review it again.
The project's restart wasn't news to Wilfred, but Karina joining it was. He didn't learn of her involvement until he arrived in Atlantis.
"Dr. Carter came to see you personally?" His brows furrowed, the deep crease revealing an unmistakable chill in his expression.
Karina didn't want him to worry too much, so she downplayed the confrontation with Dr. Carter. "I think he's after you. He probably reached out to me because of our... relationship."
She hesitated before using the word "relationship."
Once she said it, she nervously waited for Wilfred's response, fearing he might be displeased. The anxiety was palpable.
Fortunately, Wilfred didn't seem bothered. After a brief pause, he said, "Sorry, I've dragged you into this."
For some reason, Karina felt a sense of disappointment, even though he hadn't minded.
"Dr. Wilfred, please don't say that. Everything I've achieved is thanks to your guidance. As for others, even without you, I'd still have other troubles. But I think this is a challenge I need to face."
Wilfred understood what she meant. "You want to give it a try?"
Karina nodded without hesitation. "Yes, this is something I should complete."
What do you think?
