Unforgettable love

Chapter 30

Chapter 30:.

His indignation was growing and almost devoured him.

He curved his lips slightly and said coldly under his breath, “Were the words I spoke to you useless?”. They could not discern his mood from his words.

Dolores shivered unconsciously from the cold.

“Your marriage is only a bargain. You are not qualified to demand anything from it.” Sampson replied in a stern voice.

“I am not qualified. But you are more unqualified. Trying to snatch another’s wife is not something a gentleman should do.” Finishing speaking, he looked at Dolores, who was standing behind Sampson without even looking at him, “I’ll give you a minute.”

He then headed toward the building.

Sampson turned to look at Dolores, “Don’t be afraid. I’m by your side. I’ll go with you to set the record straight with him.”

Dolores shook her head. Something had gone wrong in this matter.

She had promised Matthew last time, but she had failed in her words.

“There’s no need for you to accompany me, Sampson. You can go back first. I have to go to work.” Dolores headed toward the building. However, Matthew had gone upstairs.

Dolores also took the elevator up.

Standing before Matthew’s office door, Dolores steadied herself and raised her hand to knock on the door.

“Come in.”

He pushed open the door. Just as she was about to explain why she hadn’t returned last night, Matthew spoke, “Let’s end this marriage.”

He looked at her, “A month is too long. Let’s divorce now.”

Dolores’ lips trembled uncontrollably. She had once thought she was a strong and brave woman, but it turned out she was not.

She wasn’t strong and brave enough, so when she was in danger, she couldn’t save herself.

If the one she accidentally found the night before was not Sampson, she would not have been able to escape.

Maybe she would have been ruined by the person hired by Beulah and Annabelle.

Matthew didn’t want to have any more entanglements with her and picked up the landline, “Mr. Aaron, please help me draw up the divorce…”

“No…” Dolores was quick to hang up the phone and shook her head at him, “I didn’t do it deliberately. I didn’t come back last night because I ran into some problems…”

Matthew fixed his gaze on the dress she was wearing and gave a wry, grim smile, giving off an imposing aura that seemed to be able to pass through her body. “I’ll give you the freedom to be together with the one you really love, isn’t that nice?”

Yesterday she was wearing pants and a T-shirt, but changed into a dress after one night.

How crazy were they last night that even her clothes were torn and she couldn’t wear them today?

Maybe she was appealing to him in some way, but she had also been indulgent.

This kind of woman didn’t deserve his favor.

“No.” Even if they had to divorce, they couldn’t do it at the moment.

If she lost Matthew as a backup, she would have to live at the mercy of others as she had eight years ago.

Matthew stared at her. With shock, panic and confusion on his face, he was like a bewildered and helpless deer that had lost its way. His heart suddenly began to pound. Then he grimaced. This woman was messing with the other man while trying to keep the marriage with him?

How ridiculous!

His voice was still cold and distant: “I’ll let you go so you can be with that man. But have you said no to this?”.

Dolores was extremely perplexed and frightened, fearing that Matthew was really going to divorce her.

Suddenly, her light bulb lit up at the thought of his sudden kiss and, without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed him on the lips.

The air around them seemed to freeze at that moment.

Matthew gaped for a moment. He looked at the woman kissing him on the lips and forgot how to react.

Although she was promiscuous, she was quite inexperienced at kissing.

He was inexplicably familiar with kissing, so he didn’t push her away in the first place. But when he finally pulled himself together, he pushed her away without any hint of hesitation.

Finding herself caught off guard, Dolores took two steps backward due to the force. Her legs buckled as her knees gave way and she fell to the floor. The dress was gathered up and her legs were exposed.

The wounds that had been bandaged opened up and blood seeped through the gauze, looking very conspicuous.

She felt the sharp pain in her knees.

And his body trembled slightly.

Matthew gaped.

Her legs…

Ignoring the pain in her knees, Dolores got up from the floor and kept begging him not to divorce her. He looked at her with pleading eyes. “Don’t divorce me, please.”

She was so afraid of losing everything again. She had had a hard time getting Randolph’s attention by taking advantage of her identity as Matthew’s wife, but her efforts would be in vain now.

She felt panic and helplessness, which brought tears to her eyes.

Matthew reached over, bent down, and then pulled up the hem of her dress. Her knees, bandaged with white gauze, were exposed, and the red stains on them were very conspicuous.

Had she hurt herself?

His voice showed imperceptible distress and pity for her, but perhaps he himself had not perceived it. It was strange indeed that he should feel distressed for her at the sight of the wounds, “How did you hurt yourself?”

Dolores wiped the tears from her face and took the opportunity to explain, “Yesterday I ordered a cab home after leaving work. But the driver turned out to be hired by someone and tried to set me up. To escape from him, I jumped out of the car and took my injuries with me. It was not my intention not to return. The reason I was standing next to Sampson was that he happened to save me.”

Matthew didn’t want to admit that his heart softened at the sight of the wounds on his legs.

He stood up and kept his voice straight and cool, “You know who set you up?”

“Beulah Shawn and Annabelle Flores. Because I had married you and they were afraid I would fight them by relying on your power, so they took the initiative to gain the upper hand.”

There was no need to hide this. Her biggest concern at this point was to convince Matthew not to divorce her.

It turned out that the reason she wasn’t willing to divorce him wasn’t because she had feelings for him. It was because someone was pursuing her.

Inexplicably he felt a little disappointed.

He turned to face the French windows, leaving her with a back that looked lonely, “Is this the reason you don’t want to divorce me?”

Dolores didn’t deny it, “The deadline of our deal is one month. Wait until the deadline is up, OK?”.

Matthew closed his eyes and furrowed his eyebrows, apparently he didn’t want to get into this topic. He said neither YES nor NO, but merely ordered in a cold voice, “Out!”.

“I will not stay out all night any longer. Mr. Matthew, during our marriage, I will fulfill the duties that a wife should fulfill. Please be quiet.” Dolores made the promise.

Matthew grew impatient and his voice grew colder: “Get lost!”.

Dolores hesitated a moment before limping out of the room.

When the office door closed, Matthew stroked his forehead and scornfully chided himself.

He had lost control of himself because of this easy woman!

This had never happened before!

It was very clear to him that she was neither pure nor innocent, but he couldn’t help but lose control of himself because of her.

Dolores returned to her workstation and unwrapped the gauze. The wounds had opened up and blood was seeping through the gauze. She took out the medicine Sampson had given her earlier and spread it over the wounds.

But he did not bandage them again.

As work time began, the employees arrived at the office one after the other. Throughout the morning, Dolores concentrated on translating the documents in silence. She was as quiet as if there was no one in the office. Not even Helen came to cause her problems.

At noon, everyone went out to lunch.

Dolores did not go with them. She bought a box lunch and scanned the document while she ate lunch at her workstation. Helen had demanded that she finish the translation in two days. But she had only finished half of it, so today she was quite busy with the other half.

To keep Helen from making things difficult for her, she had to finish the translation on schedule.

Helen went to lunch in the company canteen together with Matthew, so naturally they were now going back to the office together.

And Matthew did not ask about Dolores’ presence.

Thinking about this, Helen felt much better.

She was too excited then because she had been so nervous when she found out that Dolores was the girl who had spent the night with Matthew and that she was pregnant by him.

Presently, when she had calmed down and reflected thoroughly, she thought that Matthew could never know the truth about that night, since the middle-aged woman, the only person who knew the truth, was dead.

She just needed to keep Matthew’s favor for her. As for Dolores, she thought someone would help her get rid of her…..
